I thought an MBK thread would be nice.

This girl I got from Tom last year - she arrived with a little white on her belly, but it's all gone now (other than the chin spots which all MBKs I've personally seen seem to have) - she really turned into a very good looker.

This girl is the daughter of my male via breeding loan - she also had some white out of the egg, but was jet black by the time she got into my hands (except for the chin spots)

-=-

This girl is an '06 from New Age Reptiles. I don't know if they bred her or brokered her.

She arrived with a significant amount of white on her, and now at about 300g - still has a few spots of white on her neck, but most of her white is gone without a trace.

I'll post a picture of my male later.

Here is one of my newly acquired 2008 MBKs. Solid black. Eating like a pig too.

Just so you guys know...MBKs are now called "Western" Black Kings (WBKs). Not a dig, just a helpful hint...

ok I am new here.at least for posting..lol...and a fairly new MBK owner ...(since March '08) my first snake too! I definitely recommend them for a first snake.
I was debating between a ball python ( a friend had one which is how I got interested in getting a snake to begin with...and he was a sweetie..) and a corn...I ruled a kingsnake out when I read about musking..been reading the forums for over a year..researching ..somehow I saw an indigo thought they were beautiful and you know that lead to seeing MBKs and I starting reading about kingsnakes again and one coincidentally showed up at my local petstore before and well there it was...and after 2 weeks of pondering and more reading... it was still there..anyway how do I post a pic...thanks

I think both of you might be right. I really have doubts about the validity of that subspecies, but the snakes from near the coast seem to be pure (all black, all the time). Who knows?

Be patient. My MBK from Tom had a few chin spots for a year or so, and then they faded away. He's solid black now. Of course, Tom's MBK's are on the small side. His female is only a bit over 5 feet and my 3 yrs old male is not even quite 5 feet. (humor folks, Tom's MBK's are on the large size. . .) Nice snakes. Good breeder. One of my favorite snakes. It's the first snake I took to Houston for my 11 yr old niece to interact with. She likes snakes, but is a bit wary. He was real laid back as she handled him. Of course, he's an animal if the scent of mice is in the air.
