I am heart sick!

Rosebuds Aug 04, 2008 04:21 PM

I am preparing my house and animals for a possible hurricane, and I accidently left the top of Tecumseh and Tehyas cage slightly cracked open. Well, you guessed it. They are gone, and they were in the wildlife room, which means that they could easily have gotten out through one small kink in the armor or another. I have gutted the room and cannot find them anywhere. They either could have gotten outside or gotten inside the walls.

They couldn't have picked a WORSE time!

I'm not sure what you meant about a " kink in the armor" and they may have gone out??? After the storm passes and the coast is clear ( safe) set up a basking light on the floor with a rock like I told you when you asked for help for a friend. See if they appear.

Many years ago about 6 or 7 years ago my pretty female, Chinook (a yellwhead) who was allowed to run the reptile room each day , vanished, I could not find her, I had everything in there lizard proofed, it is their room, closet door taped off at bottom so no one could get in, no furniture except a long row of cabinets on one wall, with tanks on top, they were enclosed at bottom so they could not get under/ or behind.
Anyway I was so sad, she was a dollbaby and gone. About 4 days later I entered the reptile room and a dirty dingy , lizard was sitting in the middle of the floor, I was shocked it was her, and later I found one tiny place where she had dug and moved a border that was infront of the cabinet bottoms and slithered under, and had been under them the whole time.

They can fit into really tight spots, and you would never see them. Then they curl up and sleep because they are cool.

Hang in there, they will show up :0)

Hope the storm is over quick with no damage, stay safe.

I really hope you are right. This is a room that was build on to the back of my house. Its a cage, really. It has two solid walls and a roof, and the rest is hardware cloth walls. There is electricity, and I have used it for ten years for the wildlife room. So, there are a few places where they could have slipped outside if they found them, and tnere is a separation at the corner of the walls. They could have slipped in there. I hope they did that because they are likely to seek light when the storm passes. It is definitely not lizard proof. I have geckos and anoles freeloading in there all the time, cleaning up my escaped crix. I found a beautiful fat gecko while I was searching.

The storm is due to start making landfall in the mid morning and total landfall by late morning. We are on the diry side of the projected path, so we will get the worst. I just hope it doesn't strengthen. Still, ot isn't likely to strengthen more than a cat 1 hurricane.

Well, we might lose power tomorrow, so I will keep yall posted when I can.

Now, for the life of me I couldn't figure out how such a large colorful lizard cannot be located in a room. But he did it and later came out. Strange how they can find a place to hide in a seemingly "nowhere to hide" situation.

Add that to the post I wrote to Donna (Rosebuds) but I had to leave so I never wrote that story. That was good Johneee, yeah remember I emailed you a few years back and told you I could not find KONG and remembered I had a box in the reptile room with trash and took and threw it out. Later when I did not see Kong for a couple days I was sick to my stomach( I remember saying that to you) thinking that even though I checked that box, that maybe he had gotten in anyway, and I threw him and the box out in the trash.

Oh I was a MESS to say the least. That boy is SPECIAL. But low and behold my hubby and I heard scrathing and moved those dang cabinets and he was back there. NO MORE cabinets they got heaved after that.

I use NO furniture in that room. I use metal horses along a whole large wall with a giant piece of wood on them for a table for at least three 40 wide breeder tanks, the other walls the tanks sit on milk crates that are the length of wall like a long table, another wall has 2 40 breeders that are stuck together to make one huge cage. And the fouth wall I have a wrought iron LONG fish tank stand with wood top that holds 2 large tanks and two large tanks on the bottom level.

Anyway other than plastic roll drawers, NO furniture.

Hi Johneee

ohh man i am really sorry. it feels like you lost a friend i know the feeling. actually stevie was like my little bro... its a horrible feeling. because you think about their safety, and how they are doing and where they are. i hope you find them. i left my tank open the other day, and my two guys decide to go on a little journey. luckily they stayed in my room., but the door was open. wide open. so they may not always find that escape hole. they may be just sitting it out, somwhere in the room. eve is right they cool off pretty fast, and odds are they will be hiding somewhere, because they are cold.and its always the most unsuspecting place.good luck with your lizards and good luck with the hurricane. stay safe
