some pics of my new sav.and a question?

jsinhardcore Aug 04, 2008 05:56 PM

just looking to see if i have all my basics covered.my basking temps are 145 degrees. ambients are 88-75 degrees. substrait is a top soil play sand mix( about 50/50) 12 inch deep. feeding on crickets 4 times a week , fuzzys 1 day a week and a chopped up adult mouse once a week as well( crickets and adult mouse gut loaded for 24 hours before). enclosure is 4 feet x 2 feet x 2 feet. will be doubling size when he/she puts on some size. plexi lid keeps it all nice hot and kinda humid(65 percent-70 percent on cool side). am i off to a good start? i want this animal to THRIVE not just survive. when i was little my father kept a sav.(unsuccesfully) and i always have thought about that one animal who didnt make it( sob story huh?) anyway now that i am an adult and have quite a bit of colubrid breeding expiriance under my belt im now looking for the challenge(and awesome reward!)of keeping a long lived healthy sav. any feed back is greatly appreciated.

It looks like you have everything covered! congrats on your new monitor.

Er wait, is that a brick in the 2nd pic? if so be careful and make sure its secure cause it could fall on your sav and injure or kill him.

jsinhardcore Aug 04, 2008 08:39 PM

no its not a brick. its an drawer from a very small dresser with an access hole knocked out turned upside down , then buried half way. its all light weight wood.

you have a male!

jsinhardcore Aug 05, 2008 11:59 AM

whats the give away that its a male? i was under the impression that monitors do not show any sexual characteristics until they reach some size.

NoobieKid Aug 05, 2008 01:25 PM

thats what i wanna know. Which one looks like a male to you thanks ^_^

The coloration of your sav is awesome! My baby is much lighter in color and pastel(ish). Very nice looking specimen. Nice set up as well! How old would you say the little fellow is?
