HDPE vs. PVC in cage construction...

trauma47645 Aug 04, 2008 06:39 PM

If you had a choice of cages built out of those two materials.. same size and shape. would it be worth spending an extra $30.00 on HDPE? or is there a negligible difference in the two plastics

Big difference in the plastics.

If you want the cage to last 15 years, get PVC (expanded foam core PVC is what it is). If you want it to last your lifetime, get HDPE (if you plan to die sooner than later, go ahead and save $30 and get PVC).

HDPE cleans easier. It is heavier. It doesn't repair as easy, but you likley will never need to. It is a tough plastic. Cutting boards are made from it.

Expanded foam core PVC is light in weight and easy to repair. You are more likley to need to repair with PVC if you drop the cage even just a few feet.

PVC holds heat in better than HDPE, but I still think HDPE is the better choice. Cage for life.
