Mating Help

jcornelisse5 Aug 04, 2008 07:31 PM

Ok,
So i bought a proven female from HISSS and a male from Progeckos, I put them together for the first time after a few days of them settling. WOW did the male bite her HARD! i have seen videos of them mating and such and i know it's a violent affair but damn!he just wacked her and she responded with a wrestling match! I split them up after a few seconds. I have read that females might not be receptive at first but how could she with such a violent bite! I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this and if they can learn to behave and get down to business????

thanks JEFF

Without seeing what actually happened it seems that you may have did okay. Did the male have his privates out to force into her or were they just fighting?? How long did you let the fighting go on for? When i got my male he attacked one of my females harder at the neck and the tail but on the other one it seemed normal. Hope that helps and respond a little in more detail. Thanks Pud

sorry i'll go into more detail.
I put her in and he came right up to her. bit her harder than i have seen right on the neck. she bit right back and they struggled and rolled around for no more than 2 seconds. and she ran away to the corner of the tank and was trying to get out acting terrified. even when i tried to take her out she was all over the place.

okay i would say let each of them cool down in different tanks. You could also put a divider in the tank to separate them for a few days and then reintroduce them and try that. If they just start fighting i would not keep them together. Hope that helps

I had two females with one of my males and they hated one another. I eventually seperated him from the two girls for a couple days. I kept him in a very large cardboard box, I put in one female at a time and they bred perfectly fine. Aother thing to note, you'll be able to tell when your females are receptive to the male. Flip her over, her ovum which is usually a little black dot in the upper part of the stomach/lung area. If it is large and a reddish/pinkish hue then she is receptive. Good luck.
