OT, but I got a KILLER FIND today!!!

tmontz06 Aug 05, 2008 10:16 AM

So, Craigslist is my new best friend. I find all kinds of crap on there. I was sifting through the pet section and found a FREE (yes, you got it FREE) ALBINO KING SNAKE! Came with it's tank and everything. So I went and picked it up this morning, It's so cool looking. I'd post pictures but for some reason, I can't get them uploaded so i can email them to you if you want to see....

This thing is sooo blue it's not even funny. In a different light it looks almost lavender. Super neat.

I've got my two BP's, and aren't too familiar with the husbandry of kingsnakes, any suggestions? I put him on corn cob substrate, as I read online that it was the best.. Didn't see anything about humidity... are they dryer climate snakes? Any help is appreciated!!!

Teri

Hi Teri, they are from a more arid climate and don't require the same humidity as balls. There are PLENTY of kingsnake care sheets available. Do a quick search on any search engine, and I'm sure you'll find all the information you need just on the first page of matches.

A note on corncob bedding: I woke up to a dead adult Florida King when I was about 10 years old, because she had ingested too much of the bedding while feeding and choked/suffocated to death. I haven't used it since. Not saying it CAN'T work, that's just the experience I had with it. Needless to say, not a good one. I'd personally use Aspen or even newspaper.

Here you go. For future reference go to the features tab at the top of this page. MANY MANY MANY caresheets. Look for "kings and milks"..................................NOTE Corn cob is death!! For one it molds very easily!!! Bad news!! I prefer newspaper or paper towels and a good den. WORKS GREAT!! Not all kings are arid some are from forests in CA as well......An alternative is care fresh if you have to have bedding. Aspen works too!!..........................God Bless, Lee van Hyfte

When she said Albino King, I guess I automatically assumed Cal King, and continued to envision a desert environment. My fault. Read through it quickly. You know what the say about making ASSumptions.

Cal king or any king does not need desert requirements..

only thing I have needed dryer would be maybe subocs, bulls, gophers, sand boas, stuff like that......and they don't need it....again ,,aspen and cypress or paper work.....

but here at my room the humidity would kill some species, not really the substrate...

...you cool......

I read real quickly......I miss alot....sometimes the whole point..LOL
