Moving.. need advice

shane81 Aug 05, 2008 03:21 PM

I've had my california king around 3 years now (about 3.5 feet) and so leaving him behind isn't an option.

Problem is, I'm on a motorcycle. I got a great job opportunity down in Orlando,FL, which is about 4 hours south of me. My mother refuses to take care of the snake for me and is unable to assist in moving, so I'm not sure where to go from here..

I can take him with me in his feeding container, and buy a new tank when I get down to Orlando.. but I'm wondering if all that shaking on the bike will be too stressful for the 4 hour ride down.
The other thing I'm considering is over nighting him to the apartment I'm getting in Orlando, so he'll be there the same day I get down.

Can't think of any other ideas but if anyone has any, they'd be much appreciated. Have had this snake for far too long to find a new home or give him up.. but I'm running out of ideas.

Man, if you have to do it soon I'd be worried about the heat if you overnight him. Other than that, shipping him seems safest.

I can't imagine if he's properly "packaged" that taking him with you on the bike would be any worse then sending him Fedex, if anything he'd be safer...

I don't know if you've ever rode in a semi, but trust me, for the snake the ride in the trailer would be way rougher then the ride on the bike...

that and if he's with you, you know he's not gettin thrown around by a bunch of guys makin minimum wage who don't care about how they handle packages... I know a few guys who work for UPS... they're not careful, not matter what the package says..
