goose82 Aug 05, 2008 05:08 PM

i have roughly 30 snakes mostly ball pythons. no new snakes in long time no contact with any outside snakes what so ever. yesterday opened the one tub and tiny whit bugs crawling all over my female!! i check them every few days and these were not ther before. i did recently start new bag of shavings and it seems those snakes ahve some of these. i know they are not snake mites as are white. so wahta re they ive heard of peole having bedding mites. do they affect snake? how do you get rid of them? i emptied bedding from tubs put on paper towels and washed snake. do they just go away?

I have had them before. I just use mite spray. Works great.

Sounds like wood mites or what some people call wood lice. They are harmless to snakes.

I had that problem before...take out the bedding...wash it...then bake in the oven for bout 20 to 30 min at 250 degrees...kille off any eggs that mey be left...I get all my bedding from Lowe's...damaged bag of Cypress mulch...bout a $1.50...take it home and bake it...The wood mites we had came from a bag of Reptibark we got at the petstore and paid like 20 bucks for...Lowe's is cheaper...lol
