Mechanics of Extreme genes

RussBates Aug 05, 2008 08:30 PM

Can someone educate me on how the extreme genetics in hondos works? I've hatched some out from a pair of hondos I got from Terry's Xtreme back in 06. Didn't expect it but I'm really happy to say the least. Best of all the female double clutched.
Thanks,
russ

Russ, we really aren't totally sure yet so its hard to say.Its not just a simple recessive like albino so its a more complex answer.
What kind of animals did you get? And also, with Terry's and my animals we have been calling them Mega hypos or whatever the morph is. We`are leaving the name extreme to the Falcon line.
I bred a animal from Terry's line this year to a falcon "extreme" and I got five normals and one hypo that is extreme or Mega not really sure.
At any rate, its not the same gene so the name extreme should only be connected to the falcon line since he is the one that named that line of hypo.
Also, The mega gene can show its face on any type of morph or even non morph for that matter.
Post some pics and lets see what you got.
I produced a few Mega ghosts so far lets see what you have done.

ok shannon here you go. I am sure there is at least one extreme or mega hypo in this clutch of five but one or two more maybe as well but a shed or two will tell the real story. Give me your assessment. Whatever the case tehy are all screaming "sunshine"!

in the egg

These are the parents shortly after buying them from Terry.

Sorry I couldn't take better pics but these are some squirmy little buggas.

Russ ,you hit a home run there ,they are all very nice .and to get two extremes . The male was a sibling to a very nice extreme. That pair was very bright orange color Good luck with the next clutch

o.k. I get it now.You bought them from Terry M but they were animals he had from Falcons extreme line.o.k.......

Yes, very very nice that you got 2 extremes from a pair of hets.I have five eggs coking right now from a pair of jets also.

Now if we could just figure out why the falcon and Mega line is different and not compatible.

Great stuff man.
Skies the limit.

Hi Russ,

Nobody as a full understanding of this gene as of yet and that includes the first person to produce one. We do know that it is a genetic trait that is reproduced, but beyond that there is not enough evidence to prove anything else yet. If you can post a pic of the clutch.
