Crix left in enclosure overnight

djfuente Sep 03, 2003 11:49 PM

How bad is this to do. Sometimes there are leftover crix which hide in holes within branches I have and they come out over night. I don't see them crawling on my beardie because she sleeps up in the branches overnight. I'm just worried that they'll start nibbling away at her some night and kill her. I don't know if that's possible, she's about 7" and the crix are only .25". So how imperitive is it that I make sure I get them all out?

that can very well happen... someone on here actually has a picture of one of her babie beardie (or what was left of it) after a bunch of crickets went to town on it... wasn't a pretty sight...

as a result I try and clean the crickets out(if there are any left) b4 my beardie hits the sack...

what I do is I put them all in a dish... my beardie usually eats all of them b4 they get out of the dish (and if they do... they dont get far...

I also dont give them that many places hide in... so its easier to keep track of them...

I've had a beardie for 3 weeks and the second night I had her I thought I'd see how much of a chance there was of crickets munching on my beardie. Of course, I was planning on watching closely before I went to bed and getting them out anyway so as not to take a chance. I promise, everyone!!

About two hours after the lights went out both crickets hopped on top of my beardie and looked as if they were going to have a midnight snack. I could tell because once they got on top they stopped and looked like they were starting to munch. I got them out and made a heck of a ruckuss while doing so. I don't think my beardie ever woke up once. Man they sleep hard!!!

I had this same problem with the logs and climbing equipment I had in my dragons tank. Finally I got sick of spending an hour every night digging crickets out of the nooks in the logs and took all the wood out. I went to a local landscape place and picked up some river rocks and now they have rocks to climb on. If you want an option for them to be able to get higher above the ground, you can also get some of that cork wood and glue it to the back of your tank in different stages of height. I did that and mine seem to LOVE it!

im having the same prob with crix hiding inside a branch used for a basking spot, my beardie often sleeps up there, i can pick him up nad put him somewhere else without him even waking lol

maybe someone could post that baby beardie pic i cant find it, if u see this pic u will never leave crix in the tank again, pretty shocking stuff.

I always try to get all the crickets out, even if I have to hand feed my dragon the crickets. However if some escape and go hide in the large piece of driftwood I have in the cage, I always make sure there are fresh greens left in the tank over night. I always hope that the crickets would go for the greens instead of the dragon and so far I have not noticed any bite marks on my dragon.

It is always best to make sure no crickets are lose in the tank but if you miss one and can't find it, better to have food for it in the cage before it decides to eat your dragon.

... and crickets would always get in there, hide, and make a hell of a lot of noise at night. I got sick of prying them out at night, so I bought a big plastic sweater box for a few bucks and feed my dragon in there instead. Problem solved.
