Wisconsin Herping?

nomad627 Aug 06, 2008 10:17 AM

Hello all,
I am from Florida and will be visiting Wisconsin later this month. I will be in the Janesville area visiting relatives. I am looking for anyone that might have some knowledge of the area or surrounding area that might be able to show me or guide me in the right direction to find some northern herps. Any roads, locations, times to cruise, would be great. I have no knowledge of the area. I DO NOT COLLECT, JUST PHOTOGRAPH. Thanks for the help. My email is below.

I LIVE IN JANESVILLE, WI... Water snakes are the easiest to find either at big hill park (afton rd toward beloit in the bottem creek area) or whats called the old mill on county H or you could even try The jsol (Janesvilles Schools Outdoor Lab) I think thats on county rd A (if you start on mineral pt and head out of town past parker high school it on the left)
Ive had the most luck at the old mill with water snakes almost everytime i go, but i did come across a black rat at Big Hill park. You could also try the big feilds heading out on afton rd by the bike trail or up by rockport pool (my sister used to work as a lifeguard there and always had problems with them in the pool, but i haven't ever found any up there). Hope that this proves helpful.
