A concern New Owner

peterski Sep 04, 2003 12:03 AM

Hi, My name is Peter. I bought 3 hatchlings of one of each, a baby red ear, yellowbelly, & redbelly. My concern is when i bought them, 1 of them had some of its shell peeling, like a white color. Now 2 of my turtles the redbelly & red ear have the problem, is this something all hatchlings go throug? are they shedding? or not enough vitamins, because when they arrived, they didn't want to eat anything & the shipper from FL. said they were still eating off the yolk, i bought some mustard greens & water plants, & they jumped right into it, so thats doing fine, but the problem they don't want to eat ReptoMin Baby food. Is there something else I should know about hatchlings, I have the aquirium setup perfectly, Plus can there be too much u.v. Light? I think that should be it for know, so anybody with answers please reply.

Thank You,
Peterski95@hotmail.com

Hey,

I don't know jack about turtle health, but I do know that when I first got my 2 red-ears (and when my bf got his), they refused to eat. I think they were too traumatized from being handled (like moving them to our apt; also, I'm sure they weren't treated well by breeders, because breeders suck). Anyway, my turtles started eating maybe 2 weeks after I got them (I don't know how they didn't starve to death). As for the white shell problame, I don't know about that--my turtles sometimes have gotten white spots on their shells, but they've pretty much gone away.
