Trib questions

I've recently aquired some of these guys, and unfortuntly due to several factors I've lost several of them. Currently I have two left of unknown sex. I do know the sexing trick I just don't want to stress them any more at the moment. My plans are a 36inch by 30 inch terrarium that is 2 feet length of land and 12 inch length of water. My goal with these guys is to get them into a good breeding quality and basically keep them as happy and healthy as possible. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated on how best to otherwise set up the cage.
One large problem I have experienced as of yet is broken tails where the tails are getting somehow broken open but not falling off. This happens almost always about 2 inches in from the tip of the tail.
Thanks for the help.

My God, what happened to your babies??!! I have had mine for several months and she is healthy and fat like a whale! I keep her on a plastic aquarium ( a feet and a half by one feet)with a lid (with holes for ventilation), in a room which temp varies from 78F to 82F. I give her mealworms raised in ENSURE.In her cage i put a huge bowl with water with a sponge inside the water. She prefers to lay on the sponge. Her cage has a hiding box too.Everyday i put her in the sun for at least a half hour.As Croc Skinks dont tolerate heat i put her in the sun during the early morning or late afternoon when the temperature is below 84F. Thats all!If you dont want you dont need to put any substrate.
