WTVY (Dothan, Alabama) 04 August 08 Authorities Warning Residents Of Snakes
Three young children along the Florida-Alabama line came close to being severely injured after nearly stumbling on a six-foot diamondback snake.
Two brothers, Mike and Steven Johnson, along with Haley stout were playing in a field in Holmes County's Poplar Springs community when they heard the rattlesnake only three-feet away.
At one point, the snake unsuccessfully tried to bite the kids.
That's when Mike and Steve's daddy got a .22-gauge and fatally shot the reptile.
Due to the extremely high temperatures, several area residents say they've seen a number of the snakes moving around over recent days.
A game officer says it's a good idea to be a little cautious and keep an eye out for rattlesnakes and cottonmouth snakes when walking in grassy area
