Help Buying a JUngle

KBCMorphs Aug 07, 2008 12:40 PM

I have been wanting a jungle for sometime now and have the chance to get one for a local breeder. I was wondering if you can give me some pointers on how to really tell them apart. I know went I look at them here on KS some I can tell with out a dout but others look questionable to me. Any picture of 08's would help to.
thanks for the help

I suggest,if you have any doubt about them being real, you ask the breeder where the parents came from. Then confirm that with the breeder. Or get one from someone thats been around that you know won't jack you around. There's plenty of good people out there that produced jungles this year. Or, you can also post a pic of the one your interested here and people can give you their opinion. Goodluck on your purchase!

And this is ONLY my opinion, not a for sure way to know...

Not that long ago we purchased a Jungle as well, There are a few things I personally look for in a jungle, but that doesn't mean they are tell tale signs of a Jungle.

1- Its hard to explain, but many jungles have a sooty, almost darker color on thier sides, while the dorsal (top) part is squeeky clean (Or really noticably cleaner), and you can almost see the line where the Clean top meets the dirtier sides...

2- Aberrant pattern, Many don't have any abbarencies, which makes it harder, but even on the little to no abbarency ones, the saddles tend to have this big HOLE in the middle of them....Maybe some Saddles are connected...stretched out...Any Abberancy is good....

My Jungle was born 2/11/08 so she is almost 6 months old now....they tend to gain beautiful color as they grow.....Here she was before I got her...

Photo belongs to dbBoas.com

These things are by NO MEANS a for sure way to tell, but its things I noticed when I saw pics of Jungles, Most importantly knowning that one of the parents was an actual real Jungle is key, with mine, the father that produced her was purchased from Peter Kahl...and is a Swedish Jungle.

The Best thing that I can tell you is what other have told you check out the background of the parents most people with breeding jungles right now spent a pretty penny on them and most likely will have no probably putting you in contact with the person that produced their animal.

agreed 100%

Only thing I would add is wait for a great looking jungle. If the ones you're looking at look great get one/some. If not...WAIT!!!

There are many low expression ones, IMO get a high expression one!!

Well today was supposed to be a great day, I woke up thinking that I was finally going to get my first jungle boa, but ended up meeting a scammer. I went to this guys pet store to get one of his jungle 100% het albino babies that he breed and he was very uneducated about boas or just a scammer. With my knowledge and all of your help I knew that the boas he pull out weren't jungles. None of them even had the slightest bit of a jungle look to them so I went to the next step, I asked him how many in the littler were jungle and he said 27 so I asked how many were normal and thats where it all went down hill. He explained to me that even though they didn't look aberrant that they all still carried the jungle trait so all his babies were jungles. I then asked about the mom (she was the jungle looking snake) and found out that she was given to him by an older couple who's son went of the Iraq. He then looked on the internet and came up with she must be a jungle $$$. I will admit she does look very good but from seeing her babies I'm sorry to say she's not a jungle and he's going to a show in a couple of weeks to sell them all as jungles. I did try to explain how they are the same as a motley or a hypo and that unless its a super only half the litter will be jungle or hypo or motley he still tried to correct me saying that he got all his info from the Peter Kalh web site and then I asked him so I can take a normal looking boa out of a hypo litter (half being hypo and half being normal) and breed it to a normal and get hypos he didn't have an answer for that. So I left depressed that I didn't get a jungle but I am happy that I did know enough not to get scammed.

Thank you all for the added help.

I'm glad your knowledgeable enough about the Jungle Morph to not take the bad deal.
In my opinion this person who tried to sell you this "Jungle" boa is both Boa uneducated plus can be marked as a somewhat of a scammer. Through his ignorance he's pushing off Boas labeled as Jungles from a couple peeks at a website. This guy is stuck in that old category of people who labeled anything aberrant as a Jungle Boa. Not understanding the CoDom Genetics or the Brandle Swedish Blood lineage at all.
Its amazing once you've seen a Jungle in person . You'll understand just how distinct they really are.

At the same time, Sad that you didn't get a Jungle, but happy that you didn't get scammed either.

Thats too bad....But I am glad you where able to hold off and wait, There are many "Possible Jungles" out there, ones that where born in a true Jungle Litter, but just have a pretty normal look to them, for me honestly...I would pass on those as well, a Jungle has to have some of the jungle things, like mine, while mine might not be SUPER clean, or REALLY aberant, you can still tell its a Jungle.....thats why I got her...

Best of luck...and all I can say...is keep looking at Jungle Pics...and wait till one comes around that you like that meets your visual preference...

Best of luck and glad you didn't get taken...
