just 3 days ago i was given a long wished for present. a six week old green iguana........he came with an appropriatly sized vivarium( for his age).unfortunately, he doesn't seem to have settled down yet. no signs of eating and gets very hectic and bites when i try approaching him. is this normal?? the food is worrying me alittle. can anyone help me walk through this? i have read quite a few care sheets already but i'd rather get different opinions from the forum..............thanks

6 weeks is a baby, he will probably mellow out in time as he grows bigger (until he hits season, if hes a he, but somebody else can elaborate) just keep spending time with him, talk to him, stay calm and relaxed, etc..

I'd say that's normal. It'll take more than three days for him to get accustomed to his new home. Make sure it's warm enough and humid enough (85F/60pct at least; they need that in order to properly digest their food, so that might be a part of the non-eating problem) and that he has a nice warm basking spot (95F or so during the day). I recommend using mercury-type bulbs that provide both heat and UVB light (the latter being another important element to maintaining a good appetite) . A hiding place also is important, otherwise he'll stress and that will lead to the symptoms you've described.

You're doing the right things by reading the care sheets and asking for advice, so just stay the course and I think you'll be fine.
