What's cheaper, a Reeves or a Spotted?

FenderStratGuy Sep 04, 2003 04:38 AM

Hi, I'm in the market for either a Reeve's Terrapin or a Spotted Turtle. I've seen Spotted turtles price range anywheres between 85-200 dollars on kingsnake classifieds. I haven't found any prices for Reeves yet. Out of those two which one is generally cheaper? What's the cheapest that I could maybe hope to get either a spotted or a reeves for? (wc or cb) Does anyone have any links or know of anyone who captive breed either of these?
Thanks,
Mark

Reeves are much cheaper Shawn at www.turtle-town.com has them forsale right now at for 50, 85 IMO is very cheap for a spotteds . I have bought form shawn its a great place most of his turtles are breed from other people but come from some of the best breeders that don't like selling other than in lots.

Thanks for that link, I'll check it out. Now I am kinda partial to the spotteds but I do like Reeves as well. I've heard many people tell me that Musk or Mud Turtles are actually the best way to go for a beginning aquarium turtle. However I've also heard that those things can be considerably aggressive and plus the whole idea that this thing can let off a horrible stench kinda frightens me. I am just wondering why are they so popular?! The ones that I have seen advertised like on Regal Reptiles are dirt cheap like 8 dollars. What would your preference be? And could I let a spotted roam around outside of its tank more than I could with the other more aquatic turtle species?
Thanks,
Mark

The little musks are timid, not aggressive, and mine has never 'musked' me. They're very hardy turtles. You couldn't let a musk wander around, but I'm not sure how much you should let any aquatic turtle wander around.
