Snakes get gas?

cardiacsmd Aug 07, 2008 09:06 PM

Can anyone tell me if snakes get gas? This is because my ball pythons lower half feels like it is a blown up empty sac.

1 of mine in particular gets bad gas & even a coughing fit, lol, before he proceeds to blow out his a$$. It is comical. I have tried to capture it on video, but no go so far.

Oh snakes definitely get gas and can pass it quite vocally...I was sure after a rather loud explosion I will open my ball python's cage to find nothing but bits and pieces of snake...instead I found a slightly deflated but alive and well snake and a big mess to clean

Hi Cardiacsmd, I find it happens most often with too large of meals but it can happen anytime.......... When Bolivians boas were still very rare A friend thought his was gravid for over a month HUGE back half and acting PREGO.......One day he was ran out of the snake room by several large thuds as pressurized poop and gas blew chunks EVERYWHERE!!!....He was double disappointed being one of he few in the US to breed bolivians and failing again but having to clean out an 8ft neodesha cage and bath a rather testy BCA....... Fortunately BPs do not get 8 ft so it should not be as bad as all that........Lee
