Not so normal

Heat Aug 07, 2008 11:32 PM

Awhile back I had posted pix of Squilly, asking if anyone could pinpoint what is going on with her.

I guess my suspicions were confirmed that she is not so normal. She is "normal" & was bred to a pastel, spider & hws.

Well......there is a bee hatching in her clutch. I will post pix of the bee once it is out. Below are pix of Squilly, & Roxy a real normal, for comparison.

on the umm "eyelid", or top of the eye. It looks like a Bumble, though I don't know if there is a anatomical name for that part of the eye. The only way to prove her out as a pastel is to breed her to a pastel only next season. Do you have any pics of when you first aquired her?

Amazing, and congrats! What awesome luck!

H - that is hot for sure -- but I don't "think" it'd be a bumblebee as Squiggly isn't a pastel -- not sure what it would be called - maybe something new?

Perhaps this is another case of twins that developed into one snake? What did the rest of the clutch look like? Maybe it's just a really good looking spider hasn't colored up yet? Got me!

Many Congrats!

Are you saying that Squilly is a Pastel? I'm sorry, but I just don't see it. She does slightly resemble a Burgundy, however.

Are you sure she has never bred before? Even last year? Did you raise her from a neonate?

I'm not questioning your integrity - if you say it happened I'll believe you. I'm just trying to wrap my head around what the heck is going on here (with the hatchling) - you've got me twisted on this one.

By the way, that Bee looks great - post some post-shed pics of it. It could be the lighting, but there doesn't look to be a whole lot of yellow on it (or it could be due to whatever you've managed to Frankenstein together on this one).

I have no clue what is going on with Squilly.

The sellers disappeared after I bought a trio of normals from them. She was only about 500g last Easter 07 when I bought her, way too small to breed.

cheers for squilly, the normal-est looking pastel out there! :P

Definately put up pics when it's out of the egg.

And congratulations!!

Squilly looks like a banded to me...but it is possible she is a very poor sample of a pastel.. or she really darkened up like most pastels tend to do.

Do you have a good picture of her eyes? Pastels have rather distinctive eyes if I recall correctly.

You said she was breed to both a pastel and a spider. Maybe the egg was fertilized by both males. It is possible in other species for an egg to be fertilized by two sperm. The offspring would have characteristics from both males.
