leucistic & leucistic?

DuncanGSI Sep 04, 2003 05:43 AM

Have anybody seen the leucistic dragons from Dragons den herpetoculture and Fire and Ice dragons?

On the Fire and Ice dragons website is said that their leucistic dragons have dark eyes and clear nails, do the dragond den leucistic dragons have the clear nails and dark eyes also?

Wich breeder do you prefer when looking at the leucistics.

Greetings from Holland

I do not know if they are leucistic, there are some nice light colored dragons on both of those sites. If they were true leucistic and two were bred together then I think they should produce all leucistic babies. Does that happen with the bearded dragons referred to as leucistic? BTW Fire and Ice has some of the best looking dragons I have seen on the web in terms of distinct color variation.

Yes, both should show these traits if they are the marketed leucistics or what is being sold as leaucistics. Not many people are too sure about how true the leaucistics are. Some people have tried to cross hets and leu X hets without producing true leucistics in the offspring. I do know of one other breeder that is having some success with them from what they say. The offspring did have the clear nails and where white from what i saw, but these are a highly debated morph, and I personally cannot say if they were leucistic or not so I just choose to stay away until this is known for sure. I just don't know to much about these breedings to say yes they breed true. Many people don't think they do, and have had hets not breed true, but I just don't know where these people that failed accquired their stock for the breeding from, and from what I was told and didn't quite understand from this breeder was there is just more to producing these then throwing two leaucistics together. Just don't know ????? If you want to purchase these because you like white dragons with clear nails by all means I think you should go for it, but if your looking to produce, and sell leucistics do so with caution many people just won't buy until more is known about them. Of course if people like white dragons and you are not charging an arm and a leg for these "leucistics" I think you would not have problems.

Mystical Dragons

There is a lot of debate about them truly being leucistic. There is definitely some kind of color mutation there.I believe that the morph that Sandfire Dragon Ranch has that they call transparent dragons are closer to being true leucistics. They have solid black eyes and are missing most pigment allowing you to faintly see the inner linning of the adominal cavity. They had some for sell at the National Reptile Breeders Expo this year for $500 each. The only thing that makes me unsure about them is that they have produced at least one that has one black eye and one normal eye.It would be nice to see some scientific research done on both variations to see what is really going on in both.
