Got a pond setup

bonomoc08 Aug 08, 2008 12:22 PM

A pet store a town over from me is closing up shop, so I was able to get a reptile display case with 24 cages in it, (which I don't really need, but I'll make use of), equipped with UVB lights(all Exo-Terra 2.0, 5.0, and 10.0), four Waterland tubs, and a 120 gallon pond setup, all for $300.00! I'm probably going to put my burmese python in one of the bigger cages in the display case, so now I can move his 75 gallon tank out of the living room. As for the pond, I'm either going to get some Chinese golden thread turtles at the reptile expo in September, or some young peninsular cooters.

Wow, that was a heck of a deal. Have you considered diamondback terrapins for the pond? I have raised at least a dozen different types of water turtles and IMHO diamonds are hard to beat for intelligence, personality and beauty. Are you going to fence an area around the pond for box turtles to co-habitate?

I considered getting diamondbacks, but I can't find anyone in Florida who has them, and I don't want to ship from out of state, plus I've heard that they are illegal to keep here. The pond has a frame made out of wood and carpet, so I'm probably going to just keep it inside, make my back bedroom into a pond room. I've got my burmese python into one of the display case cages, and the display case in the back bedroom. The possum found a second use for the dispaly case by climbing on top of it, and using it as something to hide on, so that's already two uses for something I really didn't need.
