Super Lazy Leo

seanu13 Aug 08, 2008 01:40 PM

Hi! I've had my leo for about a year now and she's healthy and what not but super lazy about eating. Say I throw a cricket in with her, she'll look at it for a second like she's going to pounce, and then it moves a couple inches from her face and its as if she decides "meh, its not worth the trouble" so you end up having to keep the food right in front of her for he to get it (mealworms work best now. Which I like better anyway :to ME they are easier to keep but thats not the topic).

Anyway, my question is should I keep giving her the food right infront of her (one at a time I might add) or should I just make her get over it and throw the crickets in with her and make her hunt? or just put mealworms in a bowl and let her figure out they're there.

I'll have to take a video. On feeding day I put a couple crickets in with her and she fell asleep after looking excited for a few seconds.

I would toss a couple crickets in her cage and leave them in there till the next day see what happens, just put a piece of dry dog or cat food in the cage for the crickets to eat so they don't chew on your gecko. If she don't eat them I would put a dish with mealies in the cage and see if she eats those. If she doesn't eat any of the mealies after a couple days I guess you will have to go back to putting the food right in front of her. GL

How old is she? I have an older male who does the same thing, as they get older there not as anxious about food because there not growing rapidly like a hatchling. To be honest, I would skip a feeding. Then throw in some crickets and see if she eats. She'll get the picture that she needs to "hunt" instead of being "hand fed". I had one who I had to do the same thing with. Good luck.
