I guess I will call these Ultimate Abys?

Salmon Aby X F2 Aby =

So here is a another little twist to the Aby genes. Follow this the best you can as I am sure I will jump around a bit. We had a surprise small litter of Salmon Abys and Abys yesterday, I think I will call these 'Ultimate Abys' :D
This litter was a surprise as the male was in there for maybe a week and I never saw courting, copulation, ovulation or a POS. I bred the full Stripe Salmon Aby X F2 Aby and got a few really interesting babies. First let me give a little run down with some history and a few pics, most can be found on our website. These are not the newest, hottest thing, but I got pretty excited when I saw them as I really wanted to see how much more I could do to the Abys, as it is a fun project to me.

Here is a pic of the original female Aby that started it all. She had a aberrant pattern all the way down her back and a very thick laddertail. I really liked her for her tail more then the connected saddles down her back. She is also pictured with the original imported male that was bred to her to make the F1 Aby stock. That first litter in 2001 is where I got some of the nice color and strong tail striping.

So after I got the litter of F1's from the above pair I then bred one of the F1 males with no aberrancies or striping back to the original Aby female twice back in 2003 & 2004 and only got slugs. I had hoped to reproduce the Laddertail look from the breeding. I made one more attempt in 2005 and produced a ton of slugs and one baby. I was pretty excited as the one baby I got had the Laddertail look I was shooting for. She is pictured below. After that last attempt in 2005 I finally lost the original Aby female.

Now jumping back to 2004 I had a pair of 2001 F1's that were ready to breed so I gave it a shot in hopes of producing some F2's with the laddertail look. Unfortunately I only produced 4 babies with lots of slugs and NO laddertails, most likely due to the small litter count. The babies did have some nice aberrant patterns to them though. One of the four passed early after birth leaving me with 3- F2's. Below is a pic of one of the F2 Abys and the female that gave me the most recent litter.

So now this brings me to this recent litter which was produced by the F2 female pictured above and the Striped Salmon Aby male below.

This litter shows both the Striping gene common amongst the Aby bloodline and now the laddertail look found on the original Aby female!
One other interesting thing is all the Salmons in this litter have orange/red splotched tongues!

If you got all the way through this, thanks for looking!

Congrats Mike. I like how the stripe goes into the ladder tail. I don't think I've seen that look before.

I love Laddertail Boas, original Aby laddertail was beautiful. This litter is really nice.
Glad that you finally reproduced that Laddterail look you set out to achieve to begin with, LOL

Nice!!...very, very freak'n NICE!!

I dont' see how the boa market could be slowing down with animals like these and the many others produced this year!! I think you big breeders with all your new boas this year inspire the market to HANG in there!! It is only going to get better, with animals like these "obviously"!!

Congrats again!!

...before about the development of your Aby line. You really went through a lot of effort, time, suffering and slugs to develop that project to where it is today - great dedication and determination. Anyone who questions boa prices or thinks that breeding boas is a way to a quick easy buck should take a lesson -LOL!
