The best three ball "ingredients"

rockofpa Aug 08, 2008 06:29 PM

Hey guys, well I have 2 normal balls now that I have had for over 10 years now, 1 male 1 female, being there over 10 years old I'd rather not start to breed them because most likely it would slug out I think.? So I got the morph bug in me and want to give it a try. What do you think would be the best three combos for under a grand? Or if possible 4 combos. I'm thinking of going with a pastel, cinny, pin stripe, yellow belly or spider, I'm open to suggestions not sure on which should be the males or females. any other thoughts would be great. I'm not trying to breed to sell them just want some experience breeding, a nice project, and a very nice looking results! Thanks

Well.... Are you trying to get 8 snakes for under $1000? I don't think that is going to happen unfortunately.

Take a look at the classifieds..

Spiders each run around 250
Pastels maybe you can get a male for 100
Cinnys and Pins are pretty pricey

I just picked up a 1.1 pastel combo with a 0.1 spider and am going to give that a try I'm trying to get some nice snakes to keep

Let me know what you find

rockofpa Aug 08, 2008 07:07 PM

No I'm only looking for 3-4 for now. 1 male to 3 girls or 2 males to 2 girls, just looking for suggestions. As far as price goes lets say under 2 grand.

buy all the stuff you said or want......they're all cheap...

start by getting experience breeding the ones you have.......

10 years isn't squat.....I got a bunch of my girls 10 years ago or more and they were big old and fat back then ,,,and still breed well ..........

......have fun......buying is so easy right now.....

out of the ones I mentioned which would be the best parents for a great end result?

jyohe Aug 08, 2008 07:13 PM

buy what you want......

?

what would YOU like to make......???

a spider male, 4 pastel females and a pin male would make pastels, bees and pastel pins......all for like 1200 ? 1400???.....prices are all over the place.....

BUT everyone needs alot of pastel females......

.you don't need the males this year.....buy a few girls...

You can likely pick up a breeder size male of any of those for fairly cheap and give him a go with your girl this coming season -- pick up the rest in babies -- if you can get them all in one price you can keep yourself under a grand easy. If all goes well you'll get a nice clutch under your belt, learn to get the hatchlings started and find them all homes -- and hopefully enjoy the experience enough to want to go on.

good luck!

thanks so a 10 year old girl is ok to breed for her first time? At what age should you stop? What male morph would look good with a normal female?

jyohe Aug 08, 2008 07:16 PM

stop when she dies......after that she won't lay enough......

???

Yes - you can still breed her - people are breeding 20 & 30 year old females so you got plenty of time.

As far as what to breed her to -- depends on what she looks like -- if she is dark you probably don't want to breed her to a pastel or if she is heavily patterned you might want to stay away from the spider and use a cinny instead.

I don't start breeding my females until they are 4 years old. I have adult females that I have had since 1992, and they were ADULTS when I first got them! And some of those females are my best breeders!

Ball Pythons are one of the longest-lived snakes in the world. 10 years old is like being a teenage for them.

If I had $1,000 to spend I'd get a pastel yellow belly male and 2 spider females and go for bumble bellies.

Emberball Aug 08, 2008 10:49 PM

Mojave male, cinn female, pastel female, and mojave female, pretty cheap, but you can make some nice animals....or, Pastel yb, cinn female, pastel female, and yb female.........either combo can produce a white snake if you want one.

Pinstripe male look around and you can get it for 300 shipped
Spider female 400 shipped
2 Pastel females 400 shipped
Cinny female 300 shipped
Orange Ghost male 400

If you could find a breeder with all of these snakes you could probably get a package price of around 1500 bucks. These guys would give you lots of cool combos.

rockofpa Aug 09, 2008 08:26 AM

Thanks guys, my female now isn't really dark, she's in the middle but has some really nice white on her belly that leaks up a little, my male I'm sure isn't a yellow belly but he's not really that white on the bottom sides he does have what looks like a lighter tan color leaking up from his belly but is a little darker then the female. Thanks for letting me know she can still breed maybe she won't die a virgin! Would it be better to breed a normal female to morph male or the other way around. I think I'm gonna go with all morphs for the first time to get that bug out of my system. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. Any other suggestions would be great. Thanks again.

As far as breeding normal male or female to a morph I recommend going with normal female to male morph simply because your odds are the same no matter the sexes of the morphs but you can pick up a male morph cheeper then a female and you can get female normal breeders for $100-$150 easy.

the oldest breeder recorded was over 40 years old so really don't worry about being 10. Also the biggest thing you want to take into consideration is you want something with a co-dom, or domin. gene to it starting off. If it has a simple ressive gene you will not see it in any of the babies when breed to a normal but domin and co-dom you will.

Best of luck also if go to a show you may find some really good deals, there was a guy that posted just the other day that he got a 1.1 pastels for 150 at a show normally you would pay that much just for one.

I go to the Hamburg PA show never missed a show yet, and yep there are some sweet deals there. Thanks again for the suggestions.

What kind of white snake would you get with breeding the snakes you mentioned? Thanks
John

Mojave male, cinn female, pastel female, and mojave female, pretty cheap, but you can make some nice animals....or, Pastel yb, cinn female, pastel female, and yb female.........either combo can produce a white snake if you want one.

Mojave x mojave will result in 25% chance of a blue eyed leucistic. Pastel yb x yb will result in 25% chance of ivories, half of which will be pastel ivories.

These are pretty basic morphs. If you don't know these, it tells me you don't know much about the morphs available & how the genetics work. I highly suggest that you spend a little time researching different BP morphs to find what YOU like. Then find out the genetics behind it, and you'll know what you need to buy.

Ashlandthunder Aug 10, 2008 04:41 PM

I'm in a similar situation as you. I've had a "normal" BP for about 6 years and decided I wanted to expand and try breeding. I picked up 1.0 Spider and .1 Pastel last fall and added an '08 .1 cinny just a couple months ago. I don't know if my spider will be big enough to breed this year. He's only about 400 grams right now. Pastel girl is about 380 grams and the cinny is a bit over 100 grams.
