BTS and newspaper

shelley7950 Sep 04, 2003 07:57 AM

Hi..I posted about a week ago about my BTS that had chronic foot infections (and eyes, nose and mouth infections) and was kept on newspaper...after reading here that newspaper could be problematic, I immediately switched to shredded bark..The results have been amazing..in just a little over a week my lizard's feet, eyes and mouth are 90% cleared up, his appetite has doubled, he's put some weight on and he's much more alert and active...Is it possible for a lizard to be allergic to newpaper? Has anyone here kept BTS on newspaper long term? I should say that the newpapers were old and had been stored in a plastic bag in a dry closet (I had read somewhere that the ink from fresh newsprint gave off irritating fumes and old was better--ha!)..Anyhow, I feel really bad and stupid that I've been fighting this problem for over a year, and apparently I caused it myself...sigh...If anyone has any opinions or input I'd like to hear it...Thanks...

And NOW I'm remembering that people with antiques or delicate things to store are told to use special "acid free" paper because normal paper (i.e. newpaper) becomes acidic as it breaks down with age...AGGHHH...I think I've been keeping my BTS on a nice bed of acid for the last year and a half...

Glad to hear that!
This is what I always try to tell people.
Perhaps it is because of my poor English...
