just a couple of breeding questions....

colorfulcorns Aug 09, 2008 04:51 PM

Ok too start i breed my bloodred to my blizzard and my banded motley. I didn't get any eggs from the blizzard and i know for a fact they mated 6 times....When breed to my Snow she has produced perfectly.

The banded motley laid only 11 eggs this year(last year she laid 13 and 14 the two previous years when breed to the snow)

What I'm thinking is that either my bloodred is still alittle young or he is not very fertile.I have had snakes this year that look alot like the ones i would get if she mated with the snow.

Let me know what you think.....

My Bloored is only 3, is it possible that he's still young?

Also for the past two years i haven't brumated my snakes due too no place to do it.

Next year i'll be brumating them again......and hoping for the best.......

age is really a number.... tell us how long he is and how big around he is... what you are feeding him and a pic if you can.... i've seen some 3 yr olds who look like yearlings... some look like giants!! and some who i would assume be 3 yr olds... my normal 3 yr old corn is about 3 feet long... around 300 grams give or take...
as for brumating... completely different reviews...
i like to brumate b/c
1 i dont have to feed my 100 snakes and its like a mini vacation...
2 it seems like the males are more than willing to breed after brumating (my opinion)
3 it seems like the clutches are larger (my opinion)

some people will get great clutches from not brumating... but this is my opinion...
i'm sure you've hear opinions are like buttholes, everyone has 1.
good luck!

I breed based on size of the snake. Maturity in corns is based on size/length, not age. I have some females that have bred for me at 18 months of age and were right at 3 ft in length. Some of those even double clutched for me and recovered just as well as my 6 yr old female does.
