scary experience

sport72186 Aug 09, 2008 08:53 PM

alright, i feel like all this bad stuff is happening this year. Last year i had 4 babies hatch and everything went great. this year I had 14 eggs and only 3 went the full term and hatched. On top of that, one of the hatchlings has a bum leg, and my newest, i think hatched without the yolk fully absorbed. Ok, enough venting, heres my latest experience..

I posted a while ago that my male albino has been acting strange. lately hes been really jumpy and he goes crazy when you try to handle him. well today i cleaned his cage and i picked him up before cleaning his cage and he flipped out and ended up falling about 6 inches to the floor. ive had other geckos jump from higher and turn out fine, but this guy hit the carpet and went limp like he was paralyzed. all 4 legs were in scary positions that ive never seen before and then he began twitching. he had a little gecko seizure. i put him back in his cage while he was still limp and waited (cuz i didnt know what else to do). after about 60 seconds he began to come back to life and move his limbs, eventually regaining enough power to walk to his hide.

i was basically in shock thinking "what just happened?" anyone had an experience like this?

Well not sure about your adult gecko. almost sounds like he went into shock.
I am curious on your eggs. Did you feed your breeders mainly just mealworms?
On a different forum they did a poll and it seems like what caused the huge mealworm shortage also had some adverse affects on eggs and there viability.

yea, both of my females and all of my geckos are stapled on mealies. I fed the girls a pinky here and there as well to help keep weight on. I buy the mealies in bulk online so I never felt the squeeze for them because of my ordering timing. would you mind posting a link to that study? i'm interested in reading up on that idea. I've never heard of it before..

There is no scientific study that relates mealworms with infertile eggs. He just mentiones a poll.
