Here are a few of the garters I have recently found. As usual you can see more of my recent pics on the field notes forum here on Kingsnake, I will have them posted later tonight.

A nice little red sided

A red sided from another area, took a few of this little guy

Small plains

I found this guy getting attacked by a crow, I wouldnt have interfeared, but the bird flew off when it seen me & I'm sure it wouldnt have come back for him. I took this guy home with me to heal up, we'll see how it goes.

Dan,
I think it's interesting that the red-sideds that you photograph in your area consistantly have more yellow coming up the sides from the belly and on the side of the face, than the red sideds in my area, around here they are darker and have more black on the lower sides, just a simple minor locatity thing, but I thought you might find it interesting to note the differences from Montana to Iowa.
Good luck with the crow bait red sided, looks pretty bad, but I'm guessing you will be able to pull it off and be able to release it back soon, healed up but scarred, kinda like me i guess, only the snake will still be pretty.

Jeff,
That is interesting. Man thats a nice one in your pic!

If you look down the back of the injured red sided you can see that it already has a scar. I think the bird just reopened an old wound.

Dan,
Thats funny I think your areas are brighter and cleaner, I guess the grass is always greener on the other side huh? Here's a picture of the three-some this spring, 2 local females and the anery male.
