Morph Identification Continued

I'm up to 9 out. 6 are normal motleys, the one anery, the one ghost, and this morning this guy came out. I didn't get a better picture because he started flippin around and I didn't want to stress him right out of the egg, but I don't know what he is. I was expecting a hypo at some point, and maybe this is what they look like right after they hatch? I've never hatched a hypo so I don't know, but he doesn't look like the pictures I've seen of hypo hatchlings online. Any ideas?

I've also had 3 eggs get the red blotch of death and I opened them up. 2 dead normals and 1 dead ghost.

5 more to go...

just at first glance I thought normal motley. Could be hypo motley but I bet after it sheds it will look more like a normal motley....BUT easy to be wrong when looking at photos

When I first saw it coming out I thought that too, but when looking at it next to one of the obviously normal normals, it's really monochromatic. Normal or not, it's still fun to find out.

well...there are so many different looks to "normals" and there are times when hatchlings come out in varying stages of "shed" it can take a good shed or two to give you an idea just what the snake my truly look like.
It will interesting to see what it looks like after a shed...a hypo motley would be nice.

ok... no one has said this yet.... motley has a tendency to lighten the colors.... so a normal motley would look lighter in color compared to a normal-not motley. it can be very confusing until you actually have a hypo motley next to a normal motley and see the difference...

Both of the ones pictured are motley, which is why it seems to be something different to me. Based on everything else out of the clutch so far I'd guess an odd looking hypo, but I plead ignorance and wouldn't be surprised if it just ended up being an odd normal.

Another surprise though, I came home from bowling and another one was out of the egg, an obviously Amel motley (orange/pinkish eyes), so the parents seem to have been triple het (amel/hypo/anery). Two more pippies as well, one that looks anery and another normal. Just one egg that hasn't done anything yet and still looks good. Thanks for the input, I'm a total geek for genetics and love seeing what comes of it.

LOL!,....wow!, it went from thinking they were a "normal" pair to now displaying at LEAST three other mutations...LOL!...when I mentioned earlier that you could easily get some more surprises, it sure looks to have panned-out that way!

That latest one is REALLY tough to say exactly what it is without knowing any of the unknown "medley" of recessive traits they both were apparently carrying. So many genetic mutations when combined with others look VERY similar to others that are in fact NOTHING alike, but give similar appearances, and then on top of that you have to add in individual variation as well. It's enough to make a person dizzy sometimes.

Like Kin also mentioned, the Motley gene has a strong tendency to "wash out" the side pattern and appear very subdued, as well as being lighter in the areas that would normally be darker, so when all this is considered, you will probably have to do as the other's have said, and wait a while to see how it turns out later on to get a better idea of what it could possibly be,...and even then, you may actually never know either.

In any case, it is pretty interesting looking and unique from the others so far.......good luck with them!

best regards, ~Doug
