Injury in Attempted Escape

Cookiepuss Aug 10, 2008 12:21 PM

My snake had tried to escape this morning from her tank. After her first attempted a few days ago my father had put another of my tanks atop the defective wire top frame cover untilhe could build a new one to replace it. The tank wasn't as long as the one I had put it on so the edges left room for ventilation. I guess she pushed at the edge while I slept until it gave way, but it got stuck on her neck as she tried getting out and the weight of the top tank forced her in place. I got her lose, but she now has an ugly wound on the underside of her neck where the flesh is indented, the scales are twisted I think I see a little blood and other flesh. On the top of the wound I think the area around her spine is slightly indented. I need help because I don't know what to do. I'm so far out in the woods that we only get a vet in every two weeks for clinics and she doesn't have a lot if any experience in treating reptiles. I'm moving her into a new tank and applying a mild healing aid to the open flesh, but I don't know what else to do. The wound doesn't seem to bother her, but I just need some advice on how to keep her well until I can get her to the vt on the 17th.

if you cant get her to the vet keep the area as clean as you can and be sure your husbandry is 110%, keeping her bedding as clean as you can is also a big help

Tahnk you for all of your help. I took her to the vet, and she says the wound is healing well, and I can feed her. I was afraid to, because I thought it might agravate the wound. But I got the go ahead, and am feeding her tonight, and am ordering supplies through the vet to care better for her. I hope to get her into improved tank by Tuesday. I must thank you again for all of your helpful consideration. Seth is healing very well, and hardly seems to notice the wound.
