Burm Head Movements

sheilamedea Aug 10, 2008 04:13 PM

Hello Everyone,

Can someone tell me why Burmese Pythons tap their heads when they relax. Hope I have discribed this correctly. It's as if they are making sure the grass is flat under their head. Thanks so much for any help. Have never seen this described anywhere yet every Burm seems to do it. Best wishes. sf

I never really thought about it but your right. I've seen it with all our normal sized burms but not with our dwarfs or our half dwarfs. It looks like they are trying to get their head situated just right so they're nice and comfy.

Hello,

Thank you for your comment – Sounds right. Thought Burms were the only ones that did the tapping gesture with their heads, but learned something new. Have checked all over the net doing various searches, but this was never mentioned. My Burm, does this even when resting his head on me.

Anyone have their Burm sock them when they did not want to be petted? It’s kind of like getting elbowed.

Thanks everyone. Sheila

Yes, I have had them "elbow" me. It amazing they have that much muscle control, but I guess they need it to crawl. We had one of our girls in the yard getting some exercise and a bumble bee landed on her. I wasn't sure what to do, she knocked it off by "elbowing" it.

Thank you for replying. Their control is amazing. Glad the bee didn't come back and attack. So now I know he's just blowing me off like a bug!!! Burms are my favorite. What is your Art in Scales? Have a great weekend. Sheila

No, the bee didn't come back thankfully.

Art In Scales is the name of our company. We have burms, dwarf burms, boas, ball pythons and our son has his own collection of corn snakes.
