Just some pippin'

cn013 Aug 11, 2008 12:18 AM

Long hours and next to no free time have been the norm as of late... so last night I wound up finishing off a 16+ hour day by deciding to check on some eggs @ 4:30 am. Tell you what -- seeing that hint of red made everything worthwhile! This is my first Tyrrell... I'm thinking I could have done alot worse! Plus the top egg of a clutch of seven Levy County, FL elapsoides was just beginning to break through.

The Tyrrell clutch was plagued from the start... pretty late season and well I was really just crossing my fingers on these last two eggs. Followed up tonight after another long day eagerly hoping to see another head or two poking out. Well just after the shot was taken the sixth scarlet punched through... got to watch it. It really helped to remind me of why I enjoy the hobby as much as I do! Better appreciate it now before I get them going... lol. So I figured I'd share a bit and add lil' on to some of the really great posts made around here as of late...

Have a good one,
Chris

16 hours? Are you part time because when I was your age that is when I was just getting into my grove. Kids these days. Oh nice little snakes you have there too.

Thanks... though we may have differing ideas of what constitutes 'work' man... I mean for instance our freezer is just used for freezing things! Go figure...

Thanks Doug... the scarlets may not be... large hatchlings for such small eggs -- all are very active as well. But yeah assuredly they will be... I'm not sure who I'm trying to kid but I'll log the hours. Have some vested interest in them...

Thanks Joe... appreciate it.

I'm sure I'll be wandering around the expo... I'll look for you on the main floor. I'm actually hoping to meet up with a few people this year if possible... the show (for me) is more or less to browse -- though I'm sure I'll wind up coming home with a thing or two...

See you there...

Thanks a lot Terry... this is pretty exciting for me... though it builds the anticipation for next year already! I'm pretty stoked to see what you produce as well... look forward to some insane clutch shots!!

Hope to run into you @ the show as well...

Awesome little critters you've got there! That "temporalis" is fantastic - the red head is perfect. The locality elapsoides are beautiful, too. Way to go, buddy!

Thanks alot Cole... looks like my 'no jinxes' approach to this clutch sorta worked out... the two that made it are nice and plump. Both pretty nice and the more recent hatch has a ton of black on the ventral. So where are those pics of yours man? I am really looking forward to seeing a few of your kids as well...

Smokin little temporalis Chris and an obvious keeper (you need more snakes)!
Egg plague - I knows what ya sayin!

Well Jeff you're right about me not needing any more but I do have some rationale aside from just wanting to keep them...

They're from unrelated bloodlines actually... their sire an animal with a vivid 'sulfury' yellow in lieu of white. These guys are also already very good sized and well. Now I'm curious to see them shed out...

Thanks man... and next year is right around the corner!

Nice pics...very nice looking neonates...now what in the hell do you feed them?

-Rusty

cn013 Aug 12, 2008 12:49 AM

Thanks Rusty... the simple answer is whatever the hell they'll take -- lol! Actually just fuzzy hind quarters and tails at first... we'll see how it goes. The Tyrrells are actually large enough to handle small do pinks. The sat in the egg 75 days as well but anyhow I'm really crossing my fingers with them!

Those are some beautiful babies. The scale pattern on the head of the first pic are really accentuated by it's color. It almost gives that snakes head a primative appearance to it......Cool looking. Do the adults head color about the same?

Thanx & Congrats..............

Appreciate it...

As for the head pattern... no actually the first one out is by far more accentuated. Even now the two are rather distinct from one another... just waiting now for them to shed out.

Hey Chris,

that is awesome, man. Congrats on your first Tyrrell. What a way to take your mind of long days at work and remind you why you clean all those cages all year long! Great work!
