possible gravid female BCC

eliotstone Aug 11, 2008 01:00 PM

I recently introduced my male suriname BCC into my female's enclosure just for kicks. Both males have been constantly coiled up with her, and she went through a shed cycle recently. She is darkening up considerably even after the shed, and she has a slight lump about 2/3 of the way down her body. I found sperm plugs in the water bowl yesterday. I did not cycle the animals and I have not witnessed any copulation, but all signs point to gravid. Is this possible? Are there any steps I should take from here?

Yeah, he is insane with the color. I hope he bred her as well. The other male is much lighter in color normally. In those pictures he was approaching a shed cycle. I would be happy if either of them bred her.

Whats up Eliot, How long did you have the male in with her or are they still together? I have always temperature cycled my boas (I put them together during deer season) Ha! I have recently been researching a new theory based on feeding schedules and proper weight not obese just strong and blocky!! I will still "cycle" but I am adjusting the feeding as well. If your female is gravid then based on the set up you have monitor the temps and scale down the size of food Items, anyway just my opinion and techniques that worked for me
Good luck

Joel,

I had each male in individually for about one week each. Neither showed much interest; I found them on opposite corners most days. Then about a month ago I placed both males in and they wont leave her alone. She went into a shed cycle after maybe 2 weeks and has just shed. She is darkening up a bit and there seems to be a small swell in the bottom 2/3 of the body. The males are still coiled up with her and sperm plugs are showing up in the water.

If I didnt cycle them, do you think it is possible she is gravid?

If she is gravid, you may have briken a record, I wish it only took a week.

I have had a male in with her continuously for 4-5 weeks.

I would leave "A" male in with her as long as he shows interest!
Good luck friend.
