My corn won't eat.

johnnyreb Sep 04, 2003 10:25 AM

I recently purchased a corn snake from a pet shop. They said it was a long term captive about 1 1/2 years old. They told me that they were feeding it large hoppers every saturday. I bought it on a monday, so I didn't feed it until the following saturday. I fed it a large thawed hopper and it ate it as soon as I dropped the mouse in. It has been 12 days since then and I have been trying to get it to eat for 5. It isn't interested at all and just slithers right past the mouse. Is this a problem? How often do you think this snake should be eating? Thanks.

If the corn is new and has eaten from you at least once i would say let him settle in. He might just be uncomfortable or could possibly be getting ready to shed, Are his eyes cloudy? It is not real uncomman for a corn not to eat for a while specialy when new, uncomfortable, ready to shed or ready to mate.. Make sure you have a large water bowl for him to soak and a warm spot for them to relax, plus many hide spots for them to hide i would say at least three. Then give him time if he does not eat in a nother week or two then its time to have it checked out. Hope this helps if not feel free to email me,. scott
