13 year old Guyana

cbmorphs Aug 12, 2008 09:37 AM

I'm sure there are older and better looking ones out there but, are they with they'er original owners still?? I've had this guy-ana since 1996.. I bought him at the Indy show Brian Hahn runs.. I purchased him from a guy that claims he produced him?? Back then I don't believe too many people were producing captive born Guyanas?? Still are'nt enough being produced in captivity, really!! Maybe there not enough Guyana lovers left??

Any way this is "The" Guyana that will hopefully be a father soon?
My fingers are crossed harder now then when I was expecting Peruvians last month!

Just an explanation: I went through a devorce a while back (time flys)! The woman I was married too was a good woman, however, she held me back from a lot of my dreams! Collecting reptiles and breeding boas has always been one of my biggest dreams! (I'm sure this is a lot of your guys dream too!) Now that I'm able to do what I want, I've decided to make a go of this dream!!

Just rambling a little about my back ground, since all the sudden """POW""" right in the Kisser!!!! kidding! I'm sure there's a lot of people wondering were the hell did this jagoff come from!!

Anyways thanks for looking and reading this senseless dribble!

wow! he's a beauty, how big is he?

cbmorphs Aug 12, 2008 10:44 AM

I'd say he's somewhere around 8 to 9 feet, just a guess? He's the largest male boa I've ever owned! He eats small bunnies for dinner!!
He kinda dwarfed the female when they copulated!! This is another reason for my uncertainty to whether the females gravid or not!! I've heard it's kinda hard for a male to breed a smaller female! She's around 6 1/2 to 7 feet and weighed around 13lbs., before their breeding. He probably weighs around 20lbs. plus...

Thanks for the reply,
Chaz Neely

cbmorphs Aug 12, 2008 10:50 AM

I owned a male yellow Anaconda that was at least 14 feet!! I had to get rid of him the wife at the "time" insisted!! Plus he turned very very mean!! I had him since he was just a wee little fella!! He was nice till he got around the 12 foot range!! He then insisted on showing me he was boss hoss of the house!!

Thanks again,
Chaz

Having a Boa that long and in that great of a muscular condition, is something to be proud of and a true testimony to good care.

Being a good breeder of Boas is great, but being a good caretaker, is the ultimate.

Very nice Chaz. I was out for a long time until my divorce set me free. I can relate to your story.

Take Care,

I'm glad to see someone can relate!!

Thanks for the reply

gypsy1dragon Aug 12, 2008 08:54 PM

Okay guys, not only men can relate to that. When I was married couldn't have any snakes, took many years after divorce to finally get started. Started small with corn snakes, and betwen the snakes and the rats, that's usally the killer to any relationship, lol. Funny thing is, I have chosen my animals over the men! Usually better company.

I can only imagine now how it will go. The red tail I just inherited from a friend who rescued her is approx 8 ft long and my hands don't quite meet around her. She is much overweight. Friend said she was about twice that size when she got her. Then there are 2 dumerils and a dwarf retic. I think I just took myself out of the dating pool, lol.

Have fun with it, our animals are usually much nicer to be around than other people.

HEY, HEY, HEY!!! I wasn't attacking men ... at least I don't think so, lol. At least you were lucky and she was a good woman. I wish I could say he was a good man, but even his momma doesn't go there, lol. And snakes don't talk back or fight over the remote, he he he.

Going to have fun at the Expo in Daytona, but I definitely know I will be spending toooo much money. But just think of the selection!

... love the boa. I just came into possession of an adult female, don't know what locality. I was hoping for the coloration of your male, but she is a lot darker. No where nears as long, but I bet she weighs a lot more, lol.

Anyway, he's a beautiful animal, thanks for sharing.

I figured you were kidding! So was I!! There may be more males (men) that like reptiles than there are females (women) though? There should be a national "POLE" done!!(also kidding) It's hard keeping a girl friend once they see the snake room(where I sleep) kidding! People tend to judge reptile (snake)keepers too quickly.. Family included! Most of the time were labled as weird or freeks!! I say OH WELL or WHAT EVER to those shallow minded baboons!

That Guyana boa is one of my favorites, mainly because I've had him so long and he's got a cool personality! He's also my daughters favorite, even over her own 7 foot boa! Some boas do have a personality all there own! I have some boas that seem to be more dumb than others or vi-ce ver-sa! For example, when they defecate they like to smear it all over the cage! Then there's some you "think" took they'er food to eat it only to find out a day or so later they needed BABY SET!! Maybe they do that for attention?!?! That would make them smart?

Anyways, Thanks for the complements,

Chaz Neely

Dude! I have 3 boas and 2 pythons, corn snakes, cats, my dog just passed away. I am a country girl all the way. I've even had a pet opposum, lol. I tend to rescue things. The dog, cats, boas and pythons are all rescued.

OMG!!! I am also the biggest liar!! I said the new redtail was 60 lbs, NOT! I had not seen the 4 new snakes, my son brought them over and set them up. Her cage was not quite escape proof so I had him put her in the bathroom (with something heavy on the toilet lid) in case she escaped. I came home after working 2 back to back 16 hour shifts with 4 hours sleep in between and tried to pick her up in a small space. I guess perception is everything, lol. She is 20 lbs, do I feel crazy? I work 2 pm to 6 am most of the time, I only lie due to exhaustion?

Ya'll have a good night. Any one going to the Daytona Show?

Hopefully my daughter and I will be going!! I've really been looking forward to it, since I didn't go last year!! I've heard of people getting awesome deals on animals (boas) there!! I take it you live in florida??

I'd say after working that many hours 20lbs could feel like sixty, depending on what type of work you do!! Did you make that guess after work??

Sounds like you have your hands full!!

Good luck with your new animals!!

Exactly! I had just got off work after 2 16 hour days in a row. Couldn't wait to get home and see these guys, but the only ones I could really handle at that time were the dumerils. I guess my strength was zapped, lol. BTW the dums are absolutely stunning also. Don't know which is my fav.

Actually, I live in Daytona. I'm an EMT and work in the 911 call center. Drives me crazy the snake bite calls for things like rat snakes and corns.

I was looking at the pics trying to decide what type of male to get for my female redtail and saw a lot of your pics, looks like you have a nice collection. I only wanted to breed the corn snakes but have always wanted a boa and now that I have her of course I want more, lol. Going to reach my limit soon. But you know how it is, I'm addicted! I have no idea what to breed her to, she is a very dark brown normal, not much red to her tail either, but she is a big baby.

Oh, and another btw, the pythons are actually my son's.

Sounds like your at the begining stages of becoming a full blown Boa addict! I used to have king snake, milk snakes, leopard geckos, all sorts of rare pythons and a lot of boas!! I produced some geckos and colubrids, but never any boas or pythons!! I guess I was raising them too slowly back then.. About 4 years ago was the turning point of no return.....with BOAS!!

I'd say out of all the differrent reptiles I've had, boas were my choice!!! The only other retiles I have now is Argus and Timor monitors!! Also some nice Crested geckos(my daughters)...

Thanks,
Chaz

gypsy1dragon Aug 15, 2008 03:21 AM

Well, I'm up to 27 snakes altogher now, wow.

I guess you could say I had a snake "party" yesterday morning. A few people from work were dying to see the new additions, so when we got off work at 6 am three of them came over to visit. Had almost every snake out except for the retic and a couple of hatchlings.

Now I am going to have to keep my dumerils under lock and key! And the big red tail really showed off, about the sweetest snake I've ever met. She is very dark colored and irredescent.

Now everyone is like "when's the next open house?" "Your house is addicting." Uh, oh, I think I started something here, I may never get sleep again !!!

Sounds like you and your daughter have quite a collection. My son wanted a monitor, but of course he always wants the "giants." so I said now to that.

What state are ya'll in? Are you dealing with any particular state laws in your area? I have to check, we might have to have the dwarf retic microchipped, but I didn't see the boas on the list.

We have the "species of special concern." Mostly pythons on the list, of course reticulated, but it does not list the dwarf retic and the boas are definitely not on it, so I think I am okay there. It's a shame how a the few mess things up for the many.

Maybe it gets cold where you are and they don't think they can survive?

Have a great day.

I don't know what kind of redtail my new girl is, but she is a sweetheart. I was looking for one with the golden tan or brown like yours, but she needed a home and has a good temperament. She is a lot darker, with some what I would call freckling. I can't post pics from this computer or I would show you. Would kind of like to have an idea what locality she might be. Maybe I'll find a good mate for her at the Expo.

So now I can say my house is officially a zoo . Everyone from the office is coming to my house at 0600 am to see the new additions. Crazy world we live in.
