Pastel or Hypo ?

a_chen_tw Aug 12, 2008 10:54 AM

I bought this snake from a pet shop 2 days ago . The shop owner marked this snake as a "Pastel" Nicaraguan , but he also said , this snake is more similar to be a "Hypo" specimen . Because Hypo and Pastel are 2 extreme different genetic morph . Pastel is a completed
dominant in Columbian boas and Hypo(salmon) is uncompleted dominant.

I just want to know , in your opinion , Do you think is this a pastel or more like a hypo Nicaraguan boa ?

Because the importer told me he imported these boas from Germany and German breeders will usually marked hypo Nucaraguans as "pastel".

thanks.

Nice Boa whatever it is.
However -- Pastel is not a morph, or considered dominant, it is a polymorphic trait that usually pops upthru selective breeding, but not neccesarily. Breeding 2 heavily speckled Boas together will give you speckled babies, but it is not a morph. The same thing happens when breeding pastels.

Hypo possibly. Looks rather dark, but it may just be the photography.
