Outside Enclosure?

massalvaje Aug 12, 2008 11:04 AM

I have been working on an outdoor enclosure for some of my garters (my 2 T. e. vagrans). I have all of the details worked out except for a brumation site. Does anyone have any tips? Or should I bag the Brumation idea and just bring them in for the winter? I was thinking about putting a pipe that is sealed on one end into the ground at an angle and lining it with carefresh or some sort of ground litter. I would also build rocks up at the opening to to keep the opening clean of debree and to make it look more natural. Any suggestions or tips would be a great help and very appreciated.
Thanks Everyone!
-Thomas

Probably best to bring them in for the winter, unless you live in a mild area.

If the temperature in the pipe falls below freezing, it's fatal.

Thanks Wayne,
I will bring them in for the winter I am in Utah and although the the freeze usually does not go very far down, it is better to be safe than sorry. Has anyone successfully had a captive bred outside all year round? If so what was the setup?
