Water monitor wild again?

renton Aug 12, 2008 12:06 PM

My 20" water monitor has gone back to being flighty again. I moved him 2 weeks ago into his new medium viv (6L x3W x4H) from his small one and since then he cant stand the sight of me again.
Before the move he was getting more visable and wouldn't mind me in the room so much. Now I have hardly seen him and when I do catch him out, he runs as soon as i'm not looking.
I made this viv more natural with logs and deep dirt/leaf litter and all he does now is hide. I have the correct temps and he is eating well.
Any ideas?

Sounds normal. He is getting used to his new environment, even though it may be in the same room or whatever. Give it time.

Mine is the same way, he always is in the rocks and comes out to bask when Im not around or hunt and when I enter the room or see him he hides right away. It has only been about 1week since Ive changed his cage I heard it normally takes 2-3weeks before they start coming out more. The pet store I goto has lots of various sizes and it seems like the bigger ones are always out and trying to figure out how to get out or explore while the smaller ones are always hiding. Let me know how yours is progressing it seems like its a few weeks older than mine.
