What is the gene for Lesser. I saw the add below about that nice lesser spider. What do you need for the Lessers? Has there been a cinnamon lesser?
Lessers are a completely different color and pattern morph. It is derived from a wc animal obtained by RDR which he coined "platty daddy" and all of its offspring were refered to as lesser plattys or lesser platinum. It is a co-dominate mutation with the super form being a type of blue-eyed lucey. When combined with a spider the possibilities with the first breedings are spiders, lessers, lesser spiders (aka lesserbees) and normals. Really beautiful snake with tons of potential when crossed. Is there a breeding combination that can make them instead of having to buy a lesser?
No. Unless you have a platinum laying around
May i suggest buying either the Barkers ball python book or Kevins ball python book. Both would be helpful to you with your questions about morphs.
Yea I was thinking about grabbing one of the books. So I need to buy a lesser to add it in to any morph? A cinnamon to lesser, would it create lesser cinnys?
Correct. Someone on here a while back produced them. They are sweet.
Yes by breeding a cinnamon to a lesser platty you potentially could get cinnamon lessers on your first breeding. They are both co-dominate morphs meaning that they only require one gene to express a variation in either color or or pattern. If two genes(homzygous) are present for a given morph then you have a super which looks entirely different then the single gene (heterozygous) morph. Sorry if this is a little confusing but without knowing basic genetics it can be a little difficult to understand. But if my calculations are right by breeding a cinnamon to a lesser each egg has a 25% chance of being normal without trait, 25% chance of being a lesser, 25% chance of being a cinnamon and a 25% chance of being a cinnamon lesser. Those genitic predictions are right but also alway keep in mind that they are only predictions so if is possible for the odds to fall in your favor (we all love that)or fall away from your favor (at least there is always next year). You really do want to look into genetics and if you get a good grasp on domin, and ressive genes this stuff gets really fun.
