Request for Josh @ Phantom Dragons

bruce_y Aug 12, 2008 03:13 PM

Josh-

Everything that you produce is amazing! I'm sure everyone would love to see pics of your breeders with short descriptions of the genetics.

(Feel free to ignore this request if it is too much hassle or proprietary. It's just that everyone is probably curious how your produce such original variations.)

Thank you. To be honest, most all of my trans related breeders are pretty normal looking. Most people wouldn't believe that these odd/intense looking beardeds were produced by them, lol. Het trans, double hets, etc, are generally normal looking. For the best quality, I use mostly het to het breedings, and use hypotrans/other mutations to outcross and make more hets. When I hach babies from the hets, I see the results from the origional beardeds that I put into them... Almost like it skips over a generation. I definately need a website. For a long time i've been doing the 70-80's "word of mouth" approach. Josh

Hey Josh it was good talking to you on the phone about a week ago. That orange trans female, and Hypo Het Trans I got from you are growing solid and strong. I am looking forward to getting another couple from you real soon, you have my number when there are some ready. I have a question cause I dont deal with leatherbacks very much. The Co-dominant leather backs, when you breed those with a normal to outbreed being co-dom will you usually get a leatherback out of the clutch. I also have 2 co-dom females and a co dom male. Do you breed your leathers to leathers or same as trans just breed hets? I have been breeding hets, for all my stuff hypos, trans, and hypo trans, but havent tried the leathers just wanting some of your expertise. Thanks
Dennis

I wouldn't change a thing either...........its working for you so why mess with it? It would be cool to see a site with all pics of your dragons though. Nowadays everyone that has a dragon and a camera has a site. Your dragons are amazing looking, btw.

I really appreciate the complements everyone. Dennis- Allessandro is the guy to talk about the leatherbacks. I've been breeding them but not nearly as long as he has. So far I haven't bred leather to leather. My main goal right now is making some diversity with them before I start crossing them together. In my experience, when I breed a leather to a regular scaled bearded, I usually average 50% leathers. Sometimes most of the clutch are leathers, other times there are only just a few. Some pairings produce smoother dragons than others. Josh

I breed 2 of my dragons this year and one of the babies came out much smoother than the other ones. The female is an orange sandfire x desert red supposedly granddaughter to scar. The male had one parent that was hi yellow and the other chris allen red. The one much smoother dragon has smaller scales and the smoother back really makes his pattern pop out he is 6 weeks old now. Do you think he will start growing more normal spiky scales or do you think that he will remain fairly smooth? Right now it looks almost like snakeskin on him. We unfortunately had a tail biter in this clutch that got him badly( at least he healed well.

I know this may sound cheesey but if you wanna make a temporary site to show off your dragons you can get a free site on freewebs.com and if u wanna go all out u can pay for other options to add to the site but even the basic free one will do fine for now...im actually in the process of making one myself just to help show people my dragons and everythin like that...just an idea because like many people said...your dragons r amazing and need to be showed off and a website would def make business easier for you
