feeding location?

shkd70 Aug 12, 2008 07:59 PM

Sorry for the newbie question. do you all recommend feeding in the primary cage or outside the cage? If inside the cage; what about feeding on shavings?

new yearling Albino corn
Ball Python.

thanks

I prefer to feed in seperate container. I use plastic shoe box or deli cup. I do know that some people feed in the cage. I have 10 corns and 3 albino nelsons milk snakes and 9 ball pythons and all are fed in seperate containers.

hatchlings and feeders who will not take the food out of my hands (mostly hatchlings and yearlings) i feed in "feeding" containers. i have too many snakes to feed in different containers... heh.

Personally, I use a plastic shoe box to feed both my yearling corn and ball python. This way, I don't risk ingestion of substrates. With that said, I only have two snakes at this time so it is easier to separate them during feedings as opposed to someone with a multitude of snakes.

Does separating them to another container trigger them to strike cause the know they are gonna be fed? Mine perk up when I enter the cage until I move their hide or go to them but they lick their lips. However in 10 yrs my ball has not bit me. corn is still new. I'm wondering if I feed them in another container when I go to get them out and back to their home cage will they still be in feeding mode?
