parasites (internal)

B_Diddy Aug 13, 2008 02:09 AM

Alright, I have done the research and found that reptiles carry the same types of internal parasites as the dogs and cats I did most of my veterinary assistantship on. I'll make a trip to a local vet and get the saltpeter solution and some cover slips, then use the feces, when produced, here at my schools science fair next week as a demonstration in a brilliant multitasking solution. I am thinking of bringing the tank and snake as well, but am concerned about children agitating it, so may opt out of that (although it would be quite an attraction.) I went ahead and printed out pics of the different type of parasites found in snakes and am ready to identify them. It will be so cheap and easy, I will probably test once a month. Now I just need to do a bit more work to find average weights of green tree pythons of different lengths, or find a sensitive scale, as mine is a neonate and well under 1 kg. Any suggested guidelines to follow from anyone around here regarding dosages of the various anti-parasite meds?

I live in a country where Amazon will not ship. Books in English aren't easily available and tend to be expensive. I worked for a vet for 6 years. I spent 4 years in the US Navy and completed nuclear propulsion 'A' school, then worked on an aircraft carrier in engineering. I majored in chemistry and minored in mathematics. I think I can manage on my own without the book. Are you seriously trying to tell me you don't know of a trustworthy website? I was just asking for a little help. Forget it, I will get in contact with my old university and ask the doctors instead, this website is almost worthless. Consider me unsubscribed.

I've never tried looking up dosages online. Greg would most likely ship you a book directly if you contact him on his site. You don't need to go thru Amazon books. I also use a reptile medical book. I don't have complete trust in unknown websites. You could probably also try the MVF website. Many there self medicate their snakes and can give you a good dosage.
