Hatchling did not absorb yolk sac

anne2112 Aug 13, 2008 07:53 PM

I had an egg hatch today, but it did not appear to absorb the egg sack, it was still attached to her for a while then finally broke off. Do I need to worry about her health? She seems to be doing fine, has not hissed at all not sure if that is good or bad. Should I expect her to be hungry sooner than most hatchlings? I'm a little nervous.

It should be fine. I had a few of those this year. I even had a couple that were still attached to the egg. It is unnerving, but they're doing well now. As for the time between hatching and eating, I didn't notice any difference between them and the regular hatchlings. It can't hurt to start them out carefully though. Make sure the mealworms or crickets you give them are small and healthy, etc...

Thank you for your quick reply, I feel a lot better. I'd never seen that before, at first it thought her intestines were out side her body! So far she seems fine and she is hissing now I'll make good foods avil a little early. Thanks again.
