Terrarium Humidity

samriche Feb 08, 2003 06:30 AM

I have a small box turtle in an indoor glass terrarium. I have been trying for a few days to stimulate her into eating and such, but she barely moves. I keep the humidity around 70-80. I noticed, when spraying water into the terrarium to improve the humidty, that she got soaking wet. Within a minute, she was running (for a turtle) around the cage, exploring, sniffing her food, and generally being active. She stayed that way until she dried off. I'm thinking now of sectioning off a small pond for her, since she likes the water so much. Any other suggestions for raising humidity?

I have a Uroplatus Sikorae enclosure, which requires humidity of almost 100%. One of the ways I am able to achieve such high humidity is through an ultrasonic fogging system I built. You can check it out on a thread I made in the gecko forum a while back.

Of course, don't forget the easy things you can do to raise humidity like having live plants, a good substrate, a (larger?) water dish, and chosing an enclosure which is more suited towards keeping the humidity IN.

Good luck!
