Rodda claims proven wrong:

boaphile Aug 14, 2008 09:46 AM

A research article has been written that disproves the wild claims regarding Burmese Pythons made by Rodda. Here is a link to this new paper written by several hail fellows:

Claims of Potential Expansion throughout the U.S. by Invasive Python Species Are Contradicted by Ecological Niche Models

This is only par of what is needed. Along with science we need to all be active in every action that is available to each of us to protect our rights as herpetoculturists. We win with the science every time. Now all that is needed is each of us to grab an oar and row! When the opportunity arises, get up!

I really appreciated how they called out Rodda et al for having a hand in the media scare.
I like the terminology "excessively broad" in reference to the prediction maps when either term alone would have sufficed. I also like their phrase: "particularly imprecise" in regards to the same maps. I find it encouraging that they also said Rodda et al's methods: "appear to deviate from the standard protocols used in ecological niche modeling, and may be significantly under-parameterized". I think that's college-speak for "your work sucks and you're lazy!"

I am also ecstatic about this sentence as it can be used in the future to justify a lack of legislation:
"The alarmist claims made by the USGS could potentially hamper scientific discourse and inquiry into the problem, especially with regard to policy-making".

One thing I was surprised to read is that the suitable habitat of the burmese python would actually be restricted by global warming!! Freaky!! I never would have expected that.

Overall, GREAT stuff! Thanks for posting the link Jeff!
