The other day my wife tells me that she saw a mouse in the basement. I set a few traps and the next morning I had caught 2. I remembered the posts a couple of weeks ago about turtles eating carrion. My turtles I consider to be well fed. I did not think they would bother with a dead hairy mouse. Boy was I wrong. They tour right into these mice, and did not stop until there was nothing left.

We have three cats that are bringing all kinds of critters home for my box turtles to eat. I have seen everything from birds, small snakes, lizards, and also mice as yours. Its rare that they find the dead animals before I do but if given the chance they will quickly eat them up

Mine did the same thing to a dove they found dead in the yard. I'll try and get some pics in the next day or so. I've seen them do this before too

I regularly feed my boxies mice and rats of all sizes. I consider my box turtles the garbage disposals of my reptile collection, any F/T mice or rats that are refused by my snakes overnight go to the boxies in the morning, and they don't mess around. Usually I thaw mice or rats so that if one snake refuses then it goes to another snake, but some will only eat overnight, but if they don't eat it, Mikey (aka boxies) will (anyone remember the old Life cereal comercials) he likes it!
It's a special treat for them and I don't have to waste uneaten rodents, like most snake breeders. My boxies also occationally get ground venison (whitetail deer) F/T food balls, made with last years venison that needs to be used up before fall, and they relish deer meat as much as I do.
