OT: Found this little guy last night

natsamjosh Aug 16, 2008 12:50 PM

Last night was interesting. First I get a call from a friend of mine asking if I would be interested in removing a copperhead from under his neighbor's house. I doubt it's actually a copperhead, but if/when I go try to catch it I'll know for sure. Then right after I hung up, my son (who was walking the dog) calls and says he found a snake. Here are some pics of it, check out how long the tongue is! I'll let you guys try to id it, first one to do so correctly gets bragging rights. (I'd offer a small pr*ze just for fun, but that's against the rules.)

Northern Brown Snake Stroreria dekay dekay also commonly called Dekay's Snake. Brown snakes are common with several subspecies scattered across much of the eastern half of the country.

Ding! Jeff is the winner. As much as I would have liked to have found a preemie baby Anaconda to back up the giant constrictor hysteria, Jeff nailed it. He will defend his title next time I find a snake.

I never find any wild snakes - I see lots of rabbits and the occasional deer when I'm out on my bike during the early morning, dusk or late night hours, but no snakes. Probably less of them to find in a metro area, or perhaps with all the people around, they're just more secretive.
