So, while in the shower...

...it occurred to me that a hypomelanistic pearl phase BRB would probably be really beautiful. Would the hypo gene result in a lower likelihood of dirtying/darkening of the pearl pattern in addition to producing a generally lighter colored animal? Anybody have any plans for trying to produce such a snake? Already done it and keeping it a secret? Mr. Colling?

Indeed, that would be one heck of a BRB! I can't wait until someone gets to the point of combining all the genes to make more phases. I know that in many Kings and Milks the hypo gene does indeed produce a cleaner looking animal. I would think that it would have the same effect in BRBs, but we won't know for sure until we try!

Huh, not as pretty as I was expecting. Almost drab, even. I was sort of expecting the halfway point between the hypo pic on Bryan Hummel's site (http://www.rainbowboas.com/brazilian_files/BHHhypo 006.jpg) and one of Dave Colling's brighter pearls (Apricot, for example). I'm going to assume it's just not a very good pic of that particular snake in order to keep hope alive.

I am not convinced that is a Hypo animal.

Looks a lot like some of my pearls and I'm pretty sure they are not hypo's.

I have seen it in the flesh, there is 2 of them, and there is definately something going on with them. I bought the rest of the clutch, 2.7 animals, and while the pattern is the same, the colour is different. Mine have separate colours for the base, and in the circles, while the other ones seemed to be lighter and the same colour all over.

Has anything been proven with the pearls? I would think it would be a polygenic trait, so combining it with a hypo would diminish the pearl effect and would take generations of artificial selection to achieve.

Nothing is proven on the Pearls at all. I will be working with them as soon as they are old enough. Until then all any of us can do is speculate.
