Male or Female?!?

Matt J Aug 17, 2008 01:35 PM

Hey All,

Trying to help a friend out... I've kept and raised a number of Sulcata over the years, but this one has me a little stumped! It's about 14" SCL, maybe 25 pounds. The tail looks in between a male and a female at this time. It's about 6 or 7 years old? The plastron is flat as a pancake so far... Any opinions appreciated!

Male or Female? I'm stumped!

Thanks!

Matt
p.s. - Sorry it was so muddy... raining here a bit thankfully!

Anal scutes definitely look like those of a female.

I appreciate the input, Bill. No kidding, I've seen a whole bunch a tort tails, but this one just sat on the fence with me. I initially wanted to say female, but the length from the cloaca to the tip of tail just looked ever so slightly too long. At this size with a flat plastron I guess it's safe to say female.

Thanks again!

Matt

But I bet it will be a while before she grows that opening out enough to pass normal sized eggs.
