Help! My female is dropping eggs!

jokerfish Aug 18, 2008 03:04 PM

OK,I just want to make sure everything is great for my first clutch of eggs. She has 2 out right now and a way to go.I have my incubator ready at 83-86 degrees and a tub with vermiculite, moist but not soggy.Does this sound about right? Am I too hot,or to much water in the substrate?

Sorry, I am very excited...its my first time, haha!

You're using a nest box right?

I'd keep the high end of the incubation temp. at 84-85. I think you are pushing the limit at 86 in case you get a temperature spike. You should'nt or only just barely be able to squeeze water from the substrate.

The temp is actually a high 84.I keep the room at 80 degrees during the day,and I have been monitoring the incubator for about a week now and the highest it has gotten was about 85.6 or so.I dropped the thermostat just a tad, just to be safe last night and its holding in the 84's.

She was laying the eggs in a tupperware shoebox I had with moist vermiculite, she had 18 as of this morning, but I can feel one or 2 more inside her.

That's odd and concerns me. You shouldn't disturb her at all while she lays the eggs. She should dig a hole and then go in it and lay all the eggs at once and then fill in the hole. Mine take anywhere from about 2 hours to 12 hours to complete the process.

I didnt disturb her, when I came home she was out of the container.I put th eeggs in the incubator ad picked her up and felt a few more lumps.
